Editorial Freelance

Contract Writer (Freelance)

Remote, async 1 - 4 pieces per month Paid per commissioned piece

About The Role

We publish explainers and analysis for people who have to make decisions about technology:
engineers, IT leads, marketers, and operators. Our readers are not looking for a press-release
rewrite or a listicle. They want to understand how something works, what it costs, what breaks,
and whether it is worth their time.

We are building a small bench of reliable freelancers across six areas: artificial intelligence,
IT infrastructure, web design, marketing, SEO, and security. You do not need to cover all six.
Deep in one is far more useful to us than shallow in all.

On AI-assisted drafts: use whatever tools help you research and think, but
what you file has to be your own reporting and your own judgment. We check facts, and copy that
reads like it was generated wholesale gets killed, paid for once, and not commissioned again.

What You Would Write

  • Explainers that answer a real question completely, for example how a
protocol works or what a licensing change actually means for a team.
  • Practical analysis of a shift in the market, grounded in what it changes for
practitioners rather than in vendor framing.
  • How-to walkthroughs you have genuinely performed, with the failure modes
    included.
  • Typical length is 1,200 to 2,000 words. Longer is fine when the subject earns it.

Terms

  • Every piece is paid, and the rate is agreed in writing before you start. It
reflects research depth and technical difficulty, not word count.
  • Paid within 15 days of publication. If we sit on a finished piece, you still
    get paid on that schedule.
  • You keep a byline, an author page, and links to your own work.
  • First publication rights only. After 30 days you are free to republish with a canonical link
    back to us.
  • No exclusivity and no minimum volume. Write one piece a quarter or four a month.

What We Look For In A Pitch

  • A specific question your piece answers, in one sentence.
  • Why our readers in particular would care, and what they could do differently after reading.
  • What you already know about the subject, including any hands-on experience.
  • Two or three published samples. Personal blog posts count; formal clips are not required.

What We Do Not Do

  • We do not ask for spec work or unpaid trial articles. The first commission is paid.
  • We do not accept sponsored placements dressed up as editorial, from anyone.
  • We do not rewrite your voice into house style. We edit for clarity and accuracy, and you see
    the edits.

How We Hire

  • Apply below with your resume or a link to your work. Reply within seven days.
  • Send two pitch ideas once we get in touch, using the format above.
  • First paid commission. If it goes well, you join the regular bench and we
    come to you with briefs.
