Apple HomeView is a $299 smart home display that Apple announced on October 13, 2026, and it is the first Apple device built around what the company calls "an entirely new version of Siri." It comes in a tabletop version and a wall-mounted version. Preorders opened October 13, and it ships November 13.
HomeView is a consumer product. Still, staff and clients will ask whether it belongs in a conference room or at a front desk. This post covers what HomeView does, what Siri AI needs to work, how Apple handles privacy, how it compares with Amazon and Google displays, and what it means for offices and content teams. Everything here is as of the afternoon of October 13, 2026.
The short version: Apple HomeView is a 7-inch display with an A18 chip that recognizes up to six people by face and shows personal content only to the person it recognizes. Siri AI is in beta and English only at launch. Some features have daily limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost a fee later. Apple’s announcement says nothing about business use or device management, so treat it as a home device for now.
What Apple HomeView is
According to Apple’s HomeView announcement, the device combines music and video, calls, home monitoring and smart home control. Both versions use the same 7-inch display.
| Item | Tabletop | Wall-mounted |
|---|---|---|
| Price (US) | $299 | $299 |
| Display and chip | 7-inch, A18 with Secure Exclaves | 7-inch, A18 with Secure Exclaves |
| Colors | Silver, starlight, rose pink, space gray | Space gray, silver |
| Audio | Speaker base with woofer | Tuned for on-wall placement |
The wall model needs a mount. Apple lists a USB-C wall connector from $59.95 and an AC wired mount from $79.95, both orderable now. A Power over Ethernet (PoE) mount at $129.95 arrives in early 2027.
HomeView also runs Apple Music, Apple TV, Podcasts, FaceTime with Center Stage, Messages, intercom, timers and camera feeds. It listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sounds and alerts your devices.
Siri AI on Apple HomeView
Apple describes Siri AI as more conversational, with "broad world knowledge," awareness of what is on screen, and personal context. Apple says "anyone in the home can ask Siri about virtually any topic and get an answer."
There are conditions. Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software version 27.2. At launch it works in English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. Canadian French comes later in a free update.
Personal context needs a paired iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. That is how Siri reads your calendar, messages and playlists. Without one, you still get world knowledge, conversation and music discovery.
Requests run on the device or in Private Cloud Compute, Apple’s own server system. Apple says that data "is not stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else." Apple does not say which AI model powers Siri AI.
The cost question is open. A footnote says features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits, and "Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future." Apple gives no price or date. We saw the same pattern with ChatGPT, where plan level decides which model you get, as covered in our post on GPT-6 and Intelligent UI.
How Apple HomeView handles privacy
Privacy is the center of Apple’s pitch, and the design is specific.
Secure Exclaves. Apple says these are "protected and compartmentalized runtimes" that process camera and microphone data apart from the rest of the system. Apple says HomeView software, apps, the user and Apple cannot access that data.
Face recognition for up to six people. Each person gets their own Home Screen. Content in Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Reminders and Find My shows only to the person HomeView recognizes.
A second check. Messages and Calendar appear only when the enrolled person is recognized and their paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and recently unlocked.
Shared content stays shared. Photo albums and music are open to the whole household, guests included.
Cameras get end-to-end encrypted recognition of people, pets, packages and vehicles, but only with an iCloud+ plan. For a broader look at where AI processing happens, see our post on where AI agents actually run.
When and where you can buy it
Preorders opened October 13 in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US. Singapore follows on October 15. Both models ship November 13, and South Africa gets them through resellers the same day.
HomeView is not sold in the European Union. Apple says that is because Siri AI is not currently available in iOS there.
Apple also announced the Apple Home Collection, made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It includes cameras, a video doorbell, a smart deadbolt, two thermostats and room sensors. It arrives in December, with some items in early 2027. ADT offers paid professional installation through Apple Retail in the US.
A new Apple TV 4K with Siri AI in beta and a new HomePod mini came out the same day. Apple says HomePod mini gets Siri AI in a later software update.
Why Apple HomeView took this long
Apple has not explained the timing. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported repeated delays tied to the Siri rebuild. In March 2026, AppleInsider reported on Gurman’s account that the hardware had been done for months and Siri was the holdup.
Gurman has also reported that Apple is working on a tabletop robot with a display, targeted for 2027. According to MacRumors’ August 2025 summary, it was still a prototype. That is a report, not a product Apple has announced.
Apple HomeView vs Echo Show and Nest Hub
Amazon and Google both sell AI displays already. Here is how they line up, using each company’s own pages.
| Item | Apple HomeView | Amazon Echo Show with Alexa+ | Google Nest Hub with Gemini for Home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Device price (US) | $299 | Echo Show 8 $179.99, Echo Show 11 $219.99 at launch | Nest Hub (2nd gen) $99.99 |
| Assistant cost | Included, with daily limits on some features; a fee is planned | Free with Prime, or $19.99 a month | Basics free; Gemini Live needs Home Premium at $10 or $20 a month |
| Status | Beta, English only, 8 countries | All customers in US and Canada; early access elsewhere | Early access in 20 countries |
| Work accounts | Not mentioned by Apple | Not covered on the pages we checked | Google says personal accounts only, not work accounts |

HomeView costs more up front. Its assistant cost is the least clear of the three, since Apple has not priced the future fee.
Can you use Apple HomeView in an office?
Probably not well, based on what Apple has published. HomeView is set up from an iPhone or iPad and runs inside the Apple Home app. Apple’s home sharing guide says people you invite need an Apple Account, and only the home owner can add devices like HomePod and Apple TV.
That means a conference room HomeView would sit in one person’s Home, under their personal Apple Account. That person decides who else gets access.
Apple’s announcement does not mention business use, enterprise features or mobile device management (MDM). Google is clearer about its own product: Gemini for Home requires a personal Google account, not a work account.
For a front desk or meeting room, a dedicated room system is the safer choice for now. Watch for Apple business documentation before you buy for the office. If your team is weighing Apple hardware for AI work, our post on the M6 Mac mini for local AI covers a different use.
Matter support and the facilities angle
Apple says HomeView works with Apple Home and Matter accessories. Matter is a shared smart home standard, so compatible locks, sensors and thermostats from many brands can work with more than one platform.
Every Home Collection device supports Thread, a low-power network that keeps devices connected if Wi-Fi drops. The lock, thermostats and sensors are Matter compatible. Apple says the lock keeps core functions without internet.
For a small office that already uses Matter gear, HomeView can likely control it. The catch is the same as above. Control runs through a personal Home, and Apple has published no admin tools for organizations.
What Apple HomeView means for content teams
Siri AI adds another place where people get a spoken answer instead of visiting a website. Apple says Siri can answer questions on "virtually any topic." It does not say where those answers come from or how sources are credited.
One example is recipes. Apple says HomeView can convert "recipes from the web into step-by-step instructions." So Siri AI reads web pages and reshapes them.
For associations and nonprofits, the practical work is the same as for other AI answer tools. Put the direct answer near the top of the page. Use plain headings. Keep facts like dates, fees and eligibility current. Our post on answer engine optimization covers this in more detail.
Apple has not said whether Siri AI shows links, cites sites or sends any traffic. Until it does, treat it as a voice answer surface you cannot measure.
